Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the bespoke experience at Limatus Bespoke.

Getting Started

What is bespoke tailoring and how does it differ from made-to-measure?

Bespoke creates a garment from scratch based on your unique measurements. Unlike made-to-measure (which modifies an existing pattern), your bespoke pattern is drafted by hand and refined through multiple fittings for a truly individual fit.

How do I schedule a consultation?

Book through our contact page or call us at (919) 948-9496. We recommend booking at least one week in advance.

What should I expect during my first visit?

A relaxed, private 60–90 minute experience. We'll discuss your style, take 30+ measurements, and guide you through fabric selections from mills like Loro Piana, Scabal, and Holland & Sherry.

Do I need an appointment or can I walk in?

We operate by appointment only to ensure every client receives our full, undivided attention.

Pricing & Timeline

How much does a custom suit cost?

Bespoke suits start at $999. Final price depends on fabric, design details, and construction complexity. We walk you through options at every price point.

How long does it take to make a bespoke suit?

Typically 6–8 weeks from consultation to delivery, including pattern drafting, fittings, and hand-finishing. Rush orders may be available.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major debit and credit cards. Payment in full is required at the time of order due to the full customization of the garment.

Do you offer rush delivery for weddings or events?

Yes — we can often accommodate 4–5 week rush timelines for an additional fee, depending on fabric availability. Book as early as possible and mention your event date on the first call.

What is included in the starting price?

The $999+ starting price for a two-piece bespoke suit includes a hand-drafted pattern, full-canvas construction, a Super 110s wool from a top Italian mill, an in-person showroom fitting, and local alterations. Fabric upgrades, three-piece configurations, and hand-stitched details move the price up from there.

Fabrics & Design

What fabric mills do you work with?

Loro Piana, Scabal, Holland & Sherry, Dormeuil, Vitale Barberis Canonico, and more. Over 5,000 fabrics from lightweight tropical wools to cashmere blends.

Can I customize every detail of my suit?

Yes — lapel style, button stance, lining, monogramming, functional buttonholes, and more. Our designers guide you through every choice.

Do you offer fabrics suitable for warm weather?

Yes — tropical weight wools, linen blends, and high-twist fabrics that resist wrinkles and keep you cool.

What is full-canvas construction and why does it matter?

Full-canvas construction means the internal canvas that gives a jacket its shape is sewn (not glued) to the entire jacket. It drapes better, molds to your body over time, and lasts decades. Every bespoke suit at Limatus is full-canvas — it's baseline, not an upgrade.

What does 'Super 120s' or 'Super 150s' mean?

The Super number refers to the fineness of the wool fiber. Higher numbers mean finer, softer, more luxurious cloth — but also more delicate. Super 100s–110s is a durable daily-wear workhorse; Super 120s–130s is the sweet spot for most bespoke clients; Super 150s+ is luxury cloth reserved for occasional wear.

Fittings & Alterations

How many fittings are required?

Most garments require 2–3 fittings (30–45 minutes each). The first checks silhouette and structure, the second refines details.

What if my body changes after ordering?

Minor adjustments within the first year are complimentary. Most suits can be let out or taken in by up to 2 inches.

Do you offer alterations on garments not made by Limatus?

We focus exclusively on garments created in our atelier to maintain our quality standards.

Women's Bespoke

Do you make custom clothing for women?

Yes — bespoke suits, blazers, trousers, and power dressing pieces. Same meticulous process: individual pattern drafting, premium fabrics, and multiple fittings.

What styles are available for women?

Classic suits, tuxedos, oversized blazers, feminine silhouettes, power suits, wedding pantsuits, and statement evening pieces.

Gender Affirming Clothing

Do I need to know my measurements before my appointment?

Not at all. Our designers take every measurement during your private consultation. Just bring yourself and an idea of what you'd like.

Can you accommodate binders, prosthetics, or medical garments?

Absolutely. We work with clients who wear binders, breast forms, and prosthetics. Your comfort and fit are our top priorities.

I'm early in my transition. Is it too soon for bespoke?

There's no wrong time. We meet you where you are and can build garments with subtle adjustability for bodies that are changing.

Is the fitting process comfortable for trans and non-binary clients?

Fittings are private, one-on-one, and consent-based. You control the pace, and you're welcome to bring a support person.

Do you work with diverse wedding parties?

Yes! We create cohesive looks across wedding parties of all compositions — matching fabrics and details while tailoring each garment individually.

Location & Service Area

Where is Limatus Bespoke located?

Our Raleigh showroom is at 307 Blake St, Raleigh, NC 27601 — in the heart of historic City Market in downtown Raleigh. Call (919) 948-9496 to schedule a private appointment.

Do you serve clients outside of Raleigh?

Yes. We regularly work with clients from across the Triangle — Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Apex, Wake Forest, Morrisville — and from Wilmington, Charlotte, Greensboro, Fayetteville, Southern Pines, and Asheville. Many clients travel in for their first fitting and combine visits with a weekend in Raleigh.

Is there a Limatus location outside North Carolina?

Yes — we also serve clients from our San Antonio, Texas location. Both showrooms offer the same full bespoke service by appointment.

Weddings & Groups

Do you outfit entire wedding parties?

Yes. We coordinate cohesive looks across grooms, groomsmen, fathers, and ring bearers — matching fabrics and details while tailoring each garment individually. We recommend booking 4–6 months before the wedding date.

How far in advance should we start a wedding suit?

Ideally 4–6 months before the wedding for a full bespoke build with time for fittings and any coordination across a party. Three months is workable; less than that we may recommend a made-to-measure option or a rush fee.

Can groomsmen order remotely if they don't live in Raleigh?

Yes. We regularly work with wedding parties spread across the country. Local groomsmen come in for measurements; remote groomsmen can be measured at a trusted tailor in their city and we build the garment from those measurements.

Care & Longevity

How long should a bespoke suit last?

A full-canvas bespoke suit, worn in regular rotation and cared for properly, lasts 10+ years. The pattern is yours for life, so we can build a matching replacement or coordinating pieces years later.

How often should I dry clean a bespoke suit?

As rarely as possible — dry cleaning is hard on natural fibers. Air the suit after each wear, brush it with a horsehair brush, spot-clean stains, and only dry clean once or twice a year. Steam between wears to release wrinkles.

How should I store my suit between wears?

Hang on a wide, contoured wooden hanger to preserve the shoulder shape, and give it 24 hours to rest between wears so the fabric recovers. Use a breathable garment bag for long-term storage — never plastic.
