Custom Shoes in Raleigh — Common Questions
Lasts, leathers, construction, and how long a bespoke pair takes.
- What makes a shoe bespoke rather than made-to-order?
- A bespoke shoe is built on a last carved to the measurements and contours of your own feet — including instep height, arch, and width at every point. Made-to-order footwear uses a stock last in your nearest size. The last is why bespoke solves fit issues that ordinary sizing cannot.
- How long do custom shoes take to make?
- Expect roughly 10–14 weeks from your measuring appointment to delivery. Lasting, welting, and finishing are done by hand, and the leather needs time to set at each stage.
- Can custom shoes accommodate wide feet, high arches, or bunions?
- Yes — this is where bespoke footwear is most valuable. Because the last is carved to your foot, we can build in extra volume, adjust the toe box, and relieve pressure points without making the shoe look orthopedic.
- What is Goodyear welt construction and why does it matter?
- Goodyear welting stitches the upper and insole to a leather welt, which the outsole is then stitched to. It creates a water-resistant, structurally sound shoe that can be resoled many times, so a single pair can last decades rather than years.
- Which leathers can I choose from?
- Premium calfskin, museum calf, Horween shell cordovan, suede, and exotic leathers including alligator, ostrich, and lizard. Hand-finished patinas are available, along with your choice of sole type, stitching, and edge finishing.
- Do you make shoes for weddings?
- Yes. Wedding footwear is a frequent commission, often paired with a bespoke suit or tuxedo. Because footwear takes longer than suiting, begin the shoe order first — ideally six months before the wedding.
