How to Care for Your Bespoke Suit

How to Care for Your Bespoke Suit

A bespoke suit is an investment — one that can last a lifetime with proper care. These guidelines will help you protect your garment and keep it looking impeccable for years to come.

Hanging and Storage

Always hang your suit on a wide, contoured wooden hanger that matches your shoulder width. Wire and plastic hangers distort the shoulder line over time. Allow your suit to hang freely in a well-ventilated closet, never crammed between other garments.

Rotation Is Key

Never wear the same suit two days in a row. Wool needs at least 24 hours to recover its shape and release moisture. Rotating between three to five suits dramatically extends the life of each one.

Brushing, Not Washing

After each wear, brush your suit with a natural bristle clothes brush. Start at the top and brush downward, removing dust, lint, and surface debris. This simple habit is far more important than dry cleaning.

Dry Cleaning Sparingly

Dry cleaning should be a last resort, not routine maintenance. The chemicals in dry cleaning break down wool fibers over time. Aim for no more than twice per year. For minor stains, spot clean with a damp cloth.

Steaming Over Ironing

If your suit needs refreshing, use a garment steamer rather than an iron. Direct heat and pressure from an iron can create shine on the fabric and flatten the natural texture of the wool.

Seasonal Storage

When storing suits for the season, clean them first, then place them in breathable garment bags — never plastic. Add cedar blocks to repel moths and absorb moisture.
